Dear Students,

The administration, faculty, and staff would like to extend a warm welcome all of the members of the Mid Valley student body.  Whether you are new to the school, new to this building, or returning for your final year, we encourage you to start thinking about the quality of life and education you hope to have along the way.  Success, as defined by John Maxwell, is knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your full potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others.

I believe that in this quote, the author is trying to convey that success is a journey throughout life and not a final destination.  No matter how long you live or what you decide to do in life, you will never exhaust your capacity to grow toward your potential or run out of opportunities to help others.

Your time at the Mid Valley Secondary Center is but one phase of your journey and it is very important that you make the most of all the opportunities provided to you during this time.  These opportunities, should you decide to take advantage of them, will provide a strong foundation for the remainder of your life - your journey.

Your middle and high school years can be fun, exciting, and rewarding, but at the same time, they can also be difficult, confusing, and stressful. Fortunately, you will have many teachers, counselors, administrators, parents/guardians, and graduates to help guide you along this part of your journey.  Many of us have already experienced this part of life’s journey and only want what is best for you as you continue to move through it.

I hope that you set goals to become involved during your time here at the Secondary Center, whether it is through sports, chorus, band, drama, student government, or any of the many clubs and school-related activities that we have to offer.  These activities will extend your learning beyond the classroom and the research shows that many successful people in life have taken advantage of extra-curricular participation.  It is time to think about your future career and what you want to do in life.  It is also time to take advantage of the numerous pathways, that we offer here at the Mid Valley Secondary Center, to help you attain your goals.

In closing, I would like to extend the best of luck to you as you take the next steps of your journey.  My hope is that you will do what is best for you, stay positive, stay focused, and contribute to the benefit of others.  I hope that you will always remember this special time of your life – your journey through the Mid Valley Secondary Center.  When it comes time to graduate and earn your diploma, the next phase this journey will begin.  Whether it is college, the work force, or perhaps military service, you will be much more successful because of the foundation that you have built along your journey.  You will become someone who can give back and make a positive impact in both your community and in the world!  You will forever be a SPARTAN!

Wishing everyone a great school year,

Mr. Kovaleski
